What is Success?

Some people measure success by the level of job they have or money they receive. Others will tell you it is measured by how many people know your name, work, and legacy; how many people will remember you.

So what is success and how is it measured?
Success is the amount of pride you take in who you are, what you do, and how you live your life. Success is working towards being happy and satisfied with your life. Others will be able to tell if you are successful if you exude confidence and show people you are happy with you. Who is to say that a garbage collector (a very noble profession if you ask me) is less successful than the CEO of a big software company? Often times that garbage collector will be happy with the life he or she lives where the CEO has regrets. No one should be able to tell you how successful you are. You define your own success.

But how do I become successful? How do I take pride in myself?
I would challenge you to write down a list of 15 things about you that you like or you are proud of. The. Write down 5 things you don’t like or regret. Of those 5 things can you work to improve? But then look at the list of 15. Those are just 15 things about you that are amazing and impressive. You need to focus on those 15 because you are an amazing person. Other people who know you can probably write 15 totally different things about you that are amazing. Just think, there has never been a person in the history of mankind just like you. You are totally and uniquely you, and what better thing can there be than being you?

I know these days our society does not want to let people take pride in themselves. People want you to see your flaws and regret them. Makeup is all about seeing your flaws and being embarrassed. Wrinkles and laugh lines. I was once told that wrinkles where like ribbons of achievement. They are character lines. You worked hard, through stressful times and not but after all that you earned yourself some wrinkles. You made it through and now you have to proof that you made it and you achieved. Why would you want to get rid of them? Laugh lines you get from smiling a lot and laughing, from being a happy person. Why are you embarrassed of being a happy person? Try to think about these things. Think about how society wants us to look down upon ourselves. Why be ashamed? Flaunt who you are because you are an amazing person! 😉

Bad Day :(

hey readers,

I was planning on writing a different post this week but something happened today that really bothered me that I want to get out instead. Any of my long time readers will know that I run a program at my school that spreads awareness on Learning Disorders and the like to stamp out discrimination against these sorts of people. Now the program has been great and hugely successful, accommodations are being implemented in classrooms, everything has been going great. But today in a Lifestyles class we were talking about improving work places and classrooms to be more inviting places to work or lean. There were a bunch of great ideas which I really like. Then we started talking about painting he walls blues, greens, and pinks. Okay, still not bad. Then my peers keeping running with this idea to murals and lots of colorful posters on the walls. And I was sitting there like, no! I can imagine how distraction that would be for me, someone with ADHD, to have to work or learn in an environment like that. Well, one of my peers was thinking along he same lines but this was her comment, “But for that you couldn’t like hire someone bad like someone with ADHD”. I honestly literally almost stood up and left. I had been having a some what crappy day but that just offended me and I took it to heart. I didn’t say anything but I just can’t get her comment out of my mind. Here I am thinking I am making a difference and everything is great. Now, I am not so sure. Why must there be such discrimination for people who are different? Well that was a small glimpse into my bad day but I hope you all had a better day!

Short Story

For my writing class we are given a list of words to use in a creative story. I have written 12 of these stories so far. So since I am busy and I feel like sharing these stories I am going to post one per day until I run out. They vary in length and subject. I want to here what you guys think of my writing. Its a career option I have thought about following. so here is the first one I wrote over a year ago:

Nikki looked over her schedule again.  It was going to be quite a semester.  Her first class was a criminal science class. In it they were going to be reviewing a local homicide that happened a few years ago.  They would get to review all of the case files, including the autopsy reports.  That was going to be fun to do right after eating breakfast.

After that was her history class.  She was looking forward to it because they were going to be studying the late 1800s and early 1900s.  They would be looking at women’s fights to get more humane working conditions and then the rise of feminism and the women’s suffrage movement. Nikki was a firm believer in equality and loved studying what her ancestors did to help her have that freedom.

After her lunch break Nikki had a literature class.  This was probably going to be her toughest class.  She was going to be studying Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, the classic story of the misanthrope Scrooge and his Christmas transformation.  She would also have to read Caves, Cannons and Crinolines, taking a look at what it was like to like during the time of the South’s fight for autonomy. The last book they were going to study was America’s Joan of Arc: the life of Anna Elizabeth Dickson, learning about the American feminist movement.  This one she was looking forward to because it would tie in great with her history class.

Her last class of the day was her humanities class.  This semester it would be art history.  Nikki wasn’t all that thrilled with art history, but took the class because the Mr. Art was teaching the class.  Not only was he virile, but he didn’t run the class like an autocrat.  Nikki liked taking classes where she got to have some say in what they would be learning.

All in all, it looked to Nikki like it was going to be a good semester.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Well today is really Black Friday. Yesterday was Thanksgiving in America. Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday of the year (Christmas is my first). I love Thanksgiving because it is a time to spend with family celebrating what we are thankful for. We also get to eat lots of locally grown and delicious food. I am not a turkey fan, personally, but I do enjoy the stuffing and vegetables and, of course, the pie!

If I had to choose one thing I am thankful for it would be books. Books have always been a source of comfort and inspiration for me. I write books as a create outlet.
If had had to choose someone whom I am thankful for I would honestly had difficulty choosing between my parents and my little brother. Mom and Dad have always been there to support me in every crazy idea I have had. They have picked my up and dusted me off when I fell. I can never truly thank them. My little brother is the first best friend I ever had. We have always and still are best friends. We may fight but there is still a strong comradeship between us that I have never been able to find with my other friends.

Now that I have finally finished writing this post it is the day after Black Friday. I heard that a handful of people died yesterday while trying to get into stores. One man on the news said he enjoys Black Friday because he feels the Christmas spirit. But is a handful dead and about 80 injured sound like the Christmas spirit to you?

So guys, what is one thing and one person that you are thankful for? Comment with your answers below! And what are your thoughts on Black Friday?
